This department systematically manages and properly disposes of all records created by the City of Bridgeport in the course of its business. The department maintains a Records Center for inactive City records and an archive for those records of permanent historical value. It is also a clearinghouse and locator for other types of City information.
Any member of the public seeking a current or recent City record must apply to the department or office, which created it. For example, you must ask the Building Department for building plans and permits, Vital Statistics for birth, death, and marriage certificates, and the Town Clerk for land records.
